最近よく考えていたのは、今あるストラト（4.00kg）を「一回り小さくしたい」計画だ。鏡を見ながらボディに指で”削りたいライン”を描いていて、危ない所だった。

理想の一本の条件を常に考えていた・・・ネックはミディアムスケールで、ケーラーのブリッジが付いたハムとシングル両方の音が出せるギター・・・などと毎日妄想していた。

というのも、所有しているギター達が大分「年季」が入って来たのでトラブルが多く、メンテばかりしているのがちょっと嫌になったw

しかし、オーダーメイドで以下の条件を満たすオリジナル・ギターを作るには、かなりの出費＆ものすごい時間と労力が懸かる事になるので、二の足を踏んでいた。

何となく中古や既存のギターをネットオークションや何やらで見ていたら、今年の9月に発売されたばかりの「初心者用」のギターに目を奪われた。しかも「絶対条件」のみならず「追加希望」も満たしているのだ。（ネックがあと2mmほど細かったらパーフェクトだった）まさかこの歳でこんな「若い子」に手を出すことになるとは・・・おもちゃみたいなブリッジやP.U.に懸念が残るが、４万円もしないギターにそれを望むのは酷だろう。追々交換するかもしれないが、素晴らしくキュートなモデルが現実化したのはとても喜ばしい事だ。星野楽器さんに感謝！（ジャックプレートとナットが一体化している部品は秀逸！）

※見つけたその日にサウンドハウスに注文し、翌日には納品された。

Recently, I've been thinking about a plan to "make the existing Storatcaster (4.00kg) one size smaller". It was a dangerous place to draw a "line I want to sharpen" on the body while looking in the mirror. I was always thinking about one ideal condition ... the neck was medium scale, and I was delusional every day, such as a guitar with a Koehler bridge that could produce both ham and single sounds.

Because the guitars I own are "used up", I have a lot of troubles, and I'm a little disgusted with just maintaining them.

However, making a custom-made original guitar that meets the following conditions would take a considerable amount of money and a great deal of time and effort, so I was reluctant to do so.

When I was looking at used and existing guitars at online auctions and other things, I was fascinated by the "beginner" guitar that was just released in September of this year. Moreover, it meets not only "absolute conditions" but also "additional hopes". (It would have been perfect if the neck was about 2mm thinner.) No way, at this age, I wouldn't be able to reach out to such a"young Girl" ... I'm still worried about toy-like bridges and PUs, but a guitar that costs less than 40,000 yen. It would be terrible to want it. It may be replaced one after another, but I'm very happy that a wonderfully cute model has come true. Thanks to Hoshino instrument ! (The parts that integrate the jack plate and nut are excellent!)

絶対条件

ボディが小ぶりでバランス＆操作性が良い事（ヘッド落ちが無く、体にフィットするコンター加工がしてある）
ボリュームノブがリアP.U.から少し離れている事
P.U.がSSH仕様/５wayの切り替えが出来て、ハムとシングル・モードの多彩な音のバリエーションを作り出せる事
ナット幅が4.2mm以下、ミディアム・スケールで22F以上、指板が丸過ぎずネックジョイント部のヒールカット加工がしてある事
折れにくいアームがついている事
とにかく軽くて、長時間担いでいられる事

追加希望

ペグは左右についているものより６連タイプの物
ネックの裏はツルツルよりサラサラに仕上げてある事
ジャックの差し込み口が緩まない事

Absolute condition

The body is small and has good balance and operability (there is no head drop and contour processing that fits the body)
The volume knob is a little away from the rear P.U.
P.U. can switch between SSH specification / 5way, and can create various sound variations of hum and single mode.
The nut width is 4.2 mm or less, the medium scale is 22F or more, the fingerboard is not too round, and the neck joint is heel-cut.
It has an arm that is hard to break
Anyway, it's light and can be carried for a long time

Hope to add

The pegs are 6-series type rather than the ones on the left and right.
The back of the neck should be smoother than the glossy paint
Do not loosen the jack slot

音に直接関係のない改良＆変更

レバースイッチノブをミントグリーンに、ボリュームノブをエイジドホワイトに交換
トラスロッドカバーが無いので埃などが入らない様に「トラスロッド洞穴の仏像：Buddha statue in the cave」を作って嵌め込んだ
恒例のソルフェジオ・シールをピックガードに貼る
シールドを挿すジャック部分がストラトとは違い側面にあるので、担いだ状態でプラグを指す為の目印としてボディに蛍光シールを貼る
滑り止め＆取り損ね防止に、オリジナルには無いアームキャップを付ける

Improvements & changes not directly related to sound

Replace the lever switch knob with mint green and the volume knob with aged white.
Since there is no truss rod cover, I made and fitted "Buddha statue in the cave" to prevent dust from entering.
Put the customary Solfegio sticker on the pickguard
Since the jack part where the shield is inserted is on the side unlike the Strat, put a fluorescent sticker on the body as a mark to point to the plug while carrying it.
Attach an arm cap that is not in the original to prevent slipping and missed removal

音に関係のある改良（リプレイスメント・パーツ交換を含む）

Improvements related to sound (including replacement and parts replacement)

「シンクロナイズド・トレモロ（6点留め）」を”フローティング”にすべく、ブリッジを留めているビスの両外側から二本目をそれぞれ抜歯。真ん中の二本も緩めて上下可動しやすくした。
スプリングハンガーは斜めにしてスプリングは3本真っ直ぐにかける。今回スプリング鳴りを生かすためにスポンジ等でミュートはしない事にした。
「不要振動制御チップ」の代わりにネオジム磁石をブリッジとヘッドに付けると何故か雑味が無くなり音が締まる。（弦が磁気を帯びない様に弾いたら取り外す）
リア・ハムバッカーの上下に小さいネオジム磁石を２個付けた。（締りのある少し大きい音になる不思議）
ストリングガイドをカモメ型（4mmのスペーサー）からSCUDのタル型（5mmのスペーサー）に変更。※ストラトと違い２つとも同じ高さ

Improvements related to sound (including replacement and parts replacement)

In order to make the "synchronized tremolo (6 points)" "floating", the second tooth was extracted from both sides of the screw holding the bridge. I also loosened the two in the middle to make it easier to move up and down.
Tilt the spring hanger and hang three springs straight. This time, I decided not to mute with a sponge etc. in order to make the best use of the spring sound.
If a neodymium magnet is attached to the bridge and head instead of the "unnecessary vibration control chip", the noise disappears and the sound is tightened for some reason. (Remove when you play the strings so that they do not become magnetic)
Two small neodymium magnets were attached to the top and bottom of the rear humbucker. (Mystery that it makes a slightly loud sound with tightness)
Changed the string guide from seagull type (4mm spacer) to SCUD Bottle type (5mm spacer). * Unlike Storatcaster, both are the same height

検証結果／inspection result

ネックは、ミディアムスケールより約１cm長い25インチスケール（63.5 cm）PRSギターと同じ。
ネックが短すぎるとチューニングがシビアになりますが、これは「ほどほど」で落ち着きます。
重さは、所有の改造FJストラト（4.00kg）より700g近く軽い3.29kg。似通った仕様の infinite Trad ST と同じ重さです
写真で見てもあまり違いがわからないかもしれませんが、持つと違いがわかります。とてもコンパクトで短く感じるのです。
推奨弦ゲージは10-46という事で、以前から使用していた「一音下げチューニング用ゲージ」と一緒だ。

The neck is the same as a 25-inch scale (63.5 cm) PRS guitar, which is about 1 cm longer than the medium scale.
If the neck is too short, tuning will be severe, but this is "moderate" and calms down.
It weighs 3.29kg, which is 700g lighter than the modified FJ Strat (4.00kg) owned by the company. Same weight as the infinite Trad ST with similar specifications
You may not notice much difference in the picture, but you can see the difference if you have it. It feels very compact and short.
The recommended string gauge is 10-46, which is the same as the "one-note down tuning gauge" that I have been using before.

サウンドバリエーション

「AZES40」は、SSHピックアップ配列でトレモロユニット装備という仕様。5WAYセレクタースイッチとアルター・スイッチの組み合わせで、9通りのサウンドバリエーションが得られる。アルタースイッチを「ON」にすると、フロントの「疑似ハムバッカー」が得られる。面白いのは下図の様にアルター・スイッチの状態に関わらず、セレクタースイッチをリアにすればハムバッカーの音になる所だ。リードを弾くときは必ずハムバッカーにする人には打って付けだろう。タップ式ではないので、一瞬でハムバッカーに出来るのはいい回路かもしれない。

Sound variation

The "AZES40" has an SSH pickup array and is equipped with a tremolo unit. By combining the 5WAY selector switch and the alter switch, 9 kinds of sound variations can be obtained. When the alter switch is set to "ON", a "pseudo humbucker" on the front can be obtained. What is interesting is that if you set the selector switch to the rear, you will hear a humbucker sound regardless of the state of the alter switch as shown in the figure below. Whenever you play a lead, it's perfect for those who make it a humbucker. It's not a tap type, so it may be a good circuit to be a humbucker in an instant.

感想

AZES40のPickup変換(ハムとシングル）は予定していた「タップ式」ではなく「アルタースイッチ」が採用されていた。

以前からタップでシングルコイルにすると音が細くなってしまう・・・と思っていたのが、AZシリーズに搭載されているPower Tap/Alter Switchは、ハムバッカーの片方のコイルの出力をカットするのではなく、片方のコイルの低音域のみを生かす以特殊配線が施されたシステムとなっていて、艶と太さを兼ね備えたシングルコイルサウンドを出せるという事でした。「出力をシングルコイルに切り替える」のではなく、タップする目的に着目し「出したい音にダイレクトにいざなう良質なサーキット」だという事ですが、二つのモード切り替えは仕様が違うので結構戸惑います。自分が使用しているギターの音より若干軽くて立体感に欠ける印象ですが、機材の組み合わせで対処していきます。

Thoughts

The AZES40 Pickup conversion (ham and single) used the "alter switch" instead of the planned "tap type".

I've always thought that tapping a single coil would make the sound thinner, but the Power Tap / Alter Switch installed in the AZ series may cut the output of one of the humbucker coils. Instead, it is a system with special wiring that makes use of only the bass range of one coil, and it was possible to produce a single coil sound that has both luster and thickness. Instead of "switching the output to a single coil", it is a high-quality circuit that focuses on the purpose of tapping and directly invites the sound you want to produce, but switching between the two modes is quite confusing because the specifications are different. It's a little lighter than the sound of the guitar I'm using, and it lacks a three-dimensional effect, but I'll deal with it by combining the equipment.
